About Troop 444

Boy Scout Troop 444, chartered in 1960,  is a thriving, exciting place for young men ages 12 - 18.  Part of the Pacific Skyline Council, the Stanford District, of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 444 meets year round at the Sunnyvale chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Scoutmaster Jeremy Baker and his seven Assistant Scoutmasters, mentor and lead the boys weekly, as they work through the projects and activities that ultimately lead to rank designation of Eagle Scout. The Scouts and their leaders go camping, hiking, rock climbing, bicycling, river rafting, build snow igloos, and many other high adventure activities. Each summer the Troop spends one week at Camp Oljato, located in the Sierras near Huntington Lake, California.

Indoor activities can be fun, too.  Check out the Scout Movie and its outtakes, made last year.  Basketball, talks and discussions about citizenship, personal finance management, emergency preparedness, and planning, help round out the Scouts' experience.

In addition to having fun, the Scouts regularly give service to individuals and the community.  The annual Scouting for Food, carried out nationally with the other U.S. Scout Troops, is a favorite project for the boys and their families.  The Scouts can be seen cleaning gutters of older homeowners, caroling during the holidays, cleaning up gardens, planting trees, assisting with flag placement at graves on Memorial Day, serving food to the less fortunate, helping with Sunnyvale Community services' food distribution program, and other useful work.

Currently, twenty nine boys are registered in Troop 444.  Each is responsible for earning his camp costs for summer camp.  The annual Che bella musica! fundraising concert allows each participating Scout to earn a pro rata share of the evening's donations.  In order to participate, the Scout must do a job related to producing the event.  Therefore, all set up, clean up, printing, ushering, lighting, stage management, performer assistance, sound management, and other elements of the event are done by the Boy Scouts.  Parental assistance from the Troop's Scout Committee adds the adult oversight and mentoring, in accordance with Boy Scouts of America guidelines.

Troop 444 -- a great place to be a boy!
