Laura TwelvesA recent graduate of San JosČ State University and a native California, Laura Twelves began performing with the Opera San JosČ chorus during the 2003-04 season and was delighted to sing in all four shows of the year. She was invited back for 2004-05 and debuted in Opera San JosČ's new home, the newly renovated California Theatre, with Le Nozze di Figaro. Ms. Twelves performed in the Bridesmaid Duet, her first solo appearance with that company. Having just recently closed Tosca, next she will perform in the choruses of Carmen, and The Flying Dutchman. Ms. Twelves caught the "opera bug" while studying at SJSU, performing in the Opera Workshop for three years. She delighted audiences with title roles in Carmen, and Gilbert & Sullivan's Princess Ida; Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte; Countess Almavia in Le Nozze di Figaro; Fidalma in The Secret Marriage; La Zelatrice in Suor Angelica; 2nd Lady in The Magic Flute. With an instinctive flair for comic timing and a playful personality, Ms. Twleves immensely enjoyed performing the roles of Lady Jane in Gilbert & Sullivan's Patience, and Hansel in Hansel and Gretel. She recently put her comedic bravado to work in Lyric Theatre of San JosČ's production of La Vie Parisienne, appearing as the scintillating and mildly shocking Pauline. Also with Lyric Theatre, she played Maid Marian in DeKoven's Robin Hood, where her spirited acting combined with her languid and romantic voice transported the audience to the cool woods of Sherwood Forest. In April 2005, Ms. Twelves will appear as Yum-Yum in Lyric Theatre's production of The Mikado. Ms. Twelves also enjoys teaching voice lessons at the Gorin School of Music in Mountain View.
